  Earth Issues

Soil erosion and landslides are amongst main issues that plague our countries the world over.  In Malaysia in particular, our highlands are affected by many factors such as excessive developments and inappropriate clearing of forests.  Those will not only lead to soil erosion but water contamination as well!  Here are some clippings and articles on earth matters:

  • Focus: No quick answers to burning issue (NST Features, 6 April 2003) - Recent claims by some Swedish environmentalists that incineration is better than recycling have provided food for thought. Are the claims rational or is incineration a regressive step?

  • Destructive Tendencies (The Star, Features, 18 March 2003) - IN THE past couple of weeks, bulldozers and excavators have been working at a frenzied pace to strip bare the banks of the beautiful Sungai Luit in the name of the Selangor Dam.

  • Much to lose despite heli-logging (The Star, Features, 26 March 2003) - GREEN groups have always eyed so-called Reduced Impact Logging or RIL techniques with suspicion.
